Paper Structure & Marking Scheme
CTET is conducted in offline (OMR-based) mode. There is no negative marking. Questions are bilingual (English & Hindi), except in the language-specific sections. Each paper carries 150 marks over 2 hours 30 minutes.
Primary Level (PRT)
- Child Development & Pedagogy — 30 Q
- Language I — 30 Q
- Language II — 30 Q
- Mathematics — 30 Q
- Environmental Studies — 30 Q
Upper Primary Level (TGT)
- Child Development & Pedagogy — 30 Q
- Language I — 30 Q
- Language II — 30 Q
- Maths & Science OR Social Studies — 60 Q
Marking: +1 for every correct answer. No negative marking. The exam assesses teaching aptitude, subject knowledge, and pedagogy at the elementary education level.
Cut-Off & Category-wise Passing Threshold
To earn the CTET eligibility certificate, a candidate must score at least 60% marks (90 out of 150) in the respective paper. Reserved categories receive relaxation as notified by the Government of India. Qualifying CTET makes you eligible to apply for teacher recruitment — it does not guarantee a job by itself.
Past Paper 1 cut-offs for General category: typically 85–92 marks. Paper 2: 82–90 marks. Exact qualifying status will be clearly marked on your individual scorecard.

For Future CTET Aspirants
Master Child Development & Pedagogy
This 30-mark section appears in both Paper 1 and Paper 2. Many candidates underestimate it. Focus on learning theories, developmental stages, and inclusive education concepts.
NCERT Is Non-Negotiable
Thoroughly revise NCERT textbooks for Maths, EVS (Classes 1–5), Science, and Social Studies (Classes 6–8). Most subject questions are directly or indirectly NCERT-based.
Build Speed Without Guessing
There is no negative marking, but time is limited. Practise completing 150 questions in 2.5 hours consistently. Avoid random guessing in language sections where comprehension is tested.
Practise Past Papers
Solving the last 5–7 years of CTET question papers gives you an accurate sense of difficulty, recurring topics, and question patterns. Begin at least 4–6 months before the exam.
