09 · Preparation Strategy

How to Prepare for RRB ALP 2026

Since the CBT exam dates have not been announced yet, candidates have a valuable window to build a strong foundation. Here is a subject-wise approach:

🔢

Mathematics

Cover Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Data Interpretation. Aim for 40–50 practice problems daily to build speed under timed conditions.

🧠

Reasoning

Focus on puzzles, coding-decoding, blood relations, syllogisms, series, and non-verbal reasoning. Timed drills are essential since this section rewards pattern recognition.

🔬

General Science

Revise Physics, Chemistry, and Biology up to Class 10 level. NCERT textbooks are the most reliable base. Focus on applied concepts over memorisation.

📰

Current Affairs & GA

Read daily news covering Indian Railways, government schemes, Union Budget, science & technology, and sports. Maintain a monthly notes file for quick revision.

⚙️

Technical Subjects (CBT-2)

Strengthen your trade-specific basics: ITI candidates should revise their respective trades; Diploma/Degree holders should brush up core Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics fundamentals.

📊

Mock Tests & Analysis

Take full-length timed mocks every week. Review every incorrect answer — understanding why you got it wrong matters more than the raw score. Track progress over time.

10 · FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

When will the detailed CEN 01/2026 notification be published?
The detailed notification is expected on 14 May 2026. Until then, refer to the short notice released on 16 March 2026 on your regional RRB website.
Can I apply to more than one RRB zone?
No. Each candidate can apply against only one RRB region. Submitting multiple applications across zones will result in all applications being cancelled.
Is the ITI certificate mandatory, or can diploma holders apply?
Both are eligible. Candidates can apply with an ITI certificate (Class 10 + ITI), a Diploma in relevant engineering, or a full B.E./B.Tech degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Automobile Engineering.
What is the A-1 medical standard?
A-1 is the strictest medical category in Indian Railways. It requires correct colour vision, good eyesight (corrected or uncorrected within limits), normal hearing, and physical fitness. Colour blindness is a disqualifying condition for ALP.
What does the CBAT involve?
The Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) is a set of psycho-technical assessments that measure perception speed, attention, concentration, memory, and suitability for safe train operation. It is mandatory for the ALP post and cannot be substituted.
Will CBT-1 marks count in the final merit list?
No. CBT-1 is purely a qualifying/screening stage. The final merit list is based on CBT-2 marks and CBAT performance. Only those who clear CBT-1 cut-offs are called for CBT-2.
Is there negative marking in the CBT?
Yes. One-third of a mark (−⅓) is deducted for each wrong answer in both CBT-1 and CBT-2. Unattempted questions carry no penalty.
⚠ Apply Through Official Portals Only

All applications must be submitted exclusively through rrbapply.gov.in or your respective regional RRB website. The detailed notification on 14 May 2026 is the authoritative source for vacancy figures, eligibility conditions, and exam rules.

Beware of unauthorised agents, fake portals, and individuals claiming to guarantee selection in exchange for payment. RRBs never conduct recruitment through third parties or unofficial channels.
